Abstract
In comparison with the many previous years of rigid development, the banking sector in the former Czechoslovakia underwent substantial and rapid changes during the period 1990–2 as an important part of a broad transformation process from a centrally planned economy into a market economy. The enormous range and speed of these changes have been stimulated by enormous demands from other economic sectors for financial services.
