Abstract

Between the two world wars, a number of plebiscites on the status of territory took place under international auspices: Schleswig (1920), Allenstein and Marienwerder (1920), the Klagenfurt Basin (1920), Upper Silesia (1921), Sopron (1921), and the Saar (1935). Only the last of these was under the direct sponsorship of the League of Nations.1
