Abstract
International security includes three elements:
-
1.
The protection of nations from war as manifested in
-
(a)
random terrorist attacks;
-
(b)
domestic conflict;
-
(c)
effects of conflicts carried out elsewhere.
-
(a)
-
2.
The protection of nations from natural disasters such as drought, flooding, earthquakes. A country might be directly hit by a disaster, or it might be a passive victim of natural or man-made cumulative phenomena resulting in catastrophic events.
-
3.
The protection of countries from current and accumulated environmental degradation. Environmental degradation can be caused by the affected country’s citizens’ damaging behaviour, or a country can be a passive victim of damage wrought elsewhere.
