Abstract

The discussion in Part V has centred on international politics. But I would also like to attempt to connect the two facets of this problem: that is not to detach history from international relations or international politics; on the contrary my aim is to try to find out where the connections between the two aspects of the analysis are. The debate thus focusses on the issues which have been raised. I would like to stress a few general considerations which have been suggested by the chapters in Part V and by the analysis of the present-day situation. This is a time which I would like to define as ‘transition’ rather than as the ‘end of an era’, transition from an age of stability to an age of we do not yet know what.
