Abstract

The Thatcher supply-side programme had three strands to it. They were: the curbing of the power of the unions, privatisation and deregulation of state and cartelised enterprises, and the reduction of taxes and social security benefits. The purpose of the programme was to improve the productivity of labour, provide greater consumer choice and increase incentives in the labour market.
