Abstract

We caught a glimpse of the unconscious at work in the last chapter when we discussed mental health and its physical correlates, the identification of different types of personality, and the importance of interpersonal relationships. In the present chapter we will highlight the unconscious and its workings and trace its effects as they ramify throughout the world of work. But first we have to deal with one of those big issues of definition that bedevil (or enliven, depending on your point of view) the study of psychology: What is the unconscious?
