Abstract

It has commonly been known for thousands of years that certain occupations carried health hazards. Tanners and dyers were always prone to skin diseases, for example, and coal miners to black lung disease. More recently we have learned that building workers who deal with asbestos are at risk of lung cancer and there is current concern about the possible radiation hazards faced by operators of Visual Display Units.
