The time dimension

  • Chapter

Abstract

The above ‘quotation’ could have been taken from almost any of the leading Western business gurus of the day. It is the currently accepted wisdom. And for that reason alone we should, of course, be highly sceptical about it. ‘Unprecedented’ is a very big claim to make for anything. Applying it to present economic and social conditions is, I would suggest, to betray a lack of awareness about history and the effects of time which is both self-limiting and, ultimately, self-destructive. This chapter will attempt, on the contrary, to heighten that awareness by following the thread of time through many different aspects of psychology and the world of work.

‘We live in a time of unprecedented change.’

I. L. Tellem-Howe (business guru)
