Abstract
The Penguin Dictionary of Psychology describes motivation as an ‘extremely important but definitionally elusive term’ (Reber, 1985). Having attempted a definition of the term myself I can assure you that this is no cop-out. What I finally decided on was the following (Staff, 1990).
