Abstract

In analysing spoken verbal interaction our central concern is the investigation of one particular sort of language use selected from the vast range of uses that we have seen the ordinary language user must be prepared for in the conduct of their daily lives. It is that sort of language use which, for most of us, figures most prominently in our daily lives.
