Abstract

Fourteen years have passed since the Shah of Iran was deposed. This event marked the beginning of the political transformation of Iran which, in the intervening time, seems to have been completed. A republican constitution has been adopted, clerical rule has been established and institutionalised, and the succession process has been swiftly and painlessly effected.
