Abstract
This section discusses the main reasons underlying differences in the growth experience of different regions relative to the national economy of which they form a part. For example, investment decisions taken by organisations incorporate some judgement regarding the spatial location at which that investment of their resources occurs. In part, this judgment depends upon the recent, current and expected future prosperity (or lack of prosperity) of the region in which the organisation is considering making its investment. Before considering in Chapter 5 the more specific factors underlying the organisation’s location decision, this chapter investigates the region’s economic growth, building upon the material developed in Chapters 2 and 3.
