Abstract
Apart from the waste of resources, unemployment is a human problem. It is this aspect of unemployment which has conditioned Britain’s post-war economic policy. In order to achieve a low level of unemployment, Britain has risked inflation as being a far lesser evil. Experience of the disadvantages of rising prices, however, has led to more emphasis being put on a stable price level and growth, at the cost of more unemployment.
