Abstract

As we have seen, differences in perception between social workers and clients about what is happening in their encounter appear to be common. More worryingly, lack of agreement between the worker and the client about the nature of the problem and how it should be tackled is an important factor associated with poor outcome (Maluccio, 1979; Lishman, 1985; Fisher et al., 1986).
