Meeting mental health education needs of patients: the potential role of the psychiatric nurse

  • Chapter
Research in health promotion and nursing

Abstract

This chapter describes a small-scale in-depth study, exploring how a group of recently discharged psychiatric patients and their carers perceived their needs for education relating to the patients’ problems and their care programme. The ability of nurses on the wards to anticipate these needs was also investigated, as well as their perceptions of their role in patient and family teaching.
