Abstract
In the past few years there has been greatly increased interest in the Netherlands in topics concerning the extreme right and racist violence. To a large extent this has resulted from developments in the surrounding countries, particularly Germany, but events taking place at home have also stimulated interest in the subject. In 1992 there was a sharp increase in the number of criminal offences of a racist nature, and at the same time opinion polls also indicate growing support for the Centrumdemocraten (Centre Democrats, CD). In the parliamentary elections of 1989 the CD gained one seat; now, in 1993, the party could most probably succeed in gaining five or six seats.
