Abstract
At present, feminist theory is faced with a double challenge. As a form of critical consciousness, it is certainly not immune to the theoretical debates that have been going on for the last decade, and the problems raised by these debates lead to a process — healthy, I would say — of self-doubt and self-reflection. However uneasy this intellectual climate might be, it could still lead to a deeper understanding of gender relations, and to the development of strategies of communication and action which take into account difference and diversity between women.
The Orient is not as distant from us as we think.
