Abstract
As in other Eastern European countries, competition is evolving in Croatia in a period of historical change. The existing problems cannot be solved simply through the preservation or increase of competition as in established market economies, but by efforts directed towards creating the fundamental preconditions for the working of competition. This fact determines the content of this progress report on competition in Croatia. It refers therefore to the creation of the preconditions for competition in an economy in the process of transition to a market economy. This process, with its present meaning, started only recently.
