Abstract
The Voluntary Non-profit Sector (VNPS) is frequently defined as a residual set of institutions which are neither included in the private (for profit) nor in the public sector of an economy.2 Other authors suggest a number of attributes which characterise ‘third-sector institutions’. Examples given in the literature are orientation toward social responsiveness, dependence on voluntarism, etc.3
Revised and abbreviated version of a paper presented at the 6th World Congress of Economists, Mexico City, August 1980.
