Part of the book series: Practical Social Work ((PSWS))

Abstract

In this chapter the face-to-face transactions between the person with the mental illness and the social worker are considered. In the next two chapters transactions between the social worker and others will be addressed. Obviously the two situations are not distinct, but experience suggests that this is a reasonable basis for organising the material. This part of the book rests on the assumption that a diagnosis of psychosis has been made and accepted, at least as a working hypothesis by the people concerned.
