The Organisation of the Firm: Efficiency, Incentives and Controls

  • Chapter
Book cover Business Economics

Abstract

BP was one of a number of firms which, at the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s, sought to reorganise their structures along less formal lines. The aim behind ‘Project 1990’ was to combine a complete change in organisational structure with a transformation of the firm’s culture and ethos. The motive was to improve the firm’s flexibility and speed in responding to change, and to achieve a greater degree of control of the organisation.
