Abstract

This chapter has two major aims. The first part of the chapter resumes the account of the politics of leisure policy developed in preceding chapters, and focuses on an explanation of recent policy change. The second half of the chapter locates the account of the development of leisure policy within a discussion of alternative theories of the state, evaluating the adequacy of those theoretical accounts of the state by virtue of their ability to accommodate explanations of the development of leisure and policy.
