Harmonization of Pension Schemes in Europe? A Controversial Issue in the Light of Economics

  • Chapter
Age, Work and Social Security

Abstract

In the discussion on further European economic integration, as particularly connected with the envisaged completion of the Common Market between the EC Member States, the ‘social dimension’ has gained growing importance. This discussion has been considerably characterized by fears concerning possible negative effects particularly for employees resulting from measures aiming at deregulation and intensifying economic competition.

For helpful comments on a preliminary version I thank my research assistant Stefan Böhm.
