Classification of Countries and Membership of Major Groups
For analytical purposes, several classification schemes, based on various criteria, are used by international organizations and scholars, to arrange the countries of the world into groups and subgroups. The first and most general distinction is between industrial and developing countries; an additional miscellaneous group may be introduced with regard to the ‘least developed countries’.
