The First Industrial Revolution in Britain, 1780–1860: National Income and Its Distribution

  • Chapter
The Industrial Revolution

Abstract

The following pages continue the discussion of the British macroeconomy during the nation’s period of industrialization, this time from 1780 to 1850/60. This is the period sometimes referred to as that of the First Industrial Revolution. We will spend some space on outlining the broad empirical record in this chapter, although our concern is more with topics already begun: on growth, cycles, crowding-out and the standard of living.
