Beginning again — new dance

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Women in Society Series List (ed CG) ((WOSOFEL))

Abstract

New dance in England developed from the early classes, performances and writing of the X6 Collective and those who worked with them or at the same time. They were concerned to form new ideas, theories and practices for dance. They also aimed to recognise and challenge oppressive behaviour, action and patterns in themselves and others, and to begin to develop a dance practice that contributed usefully to the development of a just, rational and humane society. Their aims were radical and indicate some of the changes evident in society and in certain art practices during the 1970s and early 1980s.
