Abstract
As will be seen later, a CAD/CAM system cannot be left to look after itself. There is a number of vital operations which must be carried out regularly and with due care and attention, most of them concerned with ensuring that the electronically stored drawings generated by the users are not lost. Good drawing software is unfortunately not enough. There must be a full range of facilities to make the job of managing the system easy. Subsequent chapters will discuss how to run a system but a review of the software facilities needed for the purpose will be given here in order to complete the account of software to be expected in any good system.
