Abstract
If you are reasonably comfortable and familiar with computers then skip this chapter and start with “CAD/CAM and its value” on page 13. This general introduction to computers is included for the benefit of those who find the arrival of computer technology in their immediate working environment a little disturbing — and not without good reason, for CAD/CAM is computer technology with a vengeance. It is ironic that engineers, who have been the agents of the technological revolution in society, should now undergo a sharper change in their working methods than anybody else has ever experienced!
