Abstract

Shortly after the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, someone suggested that President Roosevelt could be the savior of the world by restoring world peace after the Polish defeat. Roosevelt answered: “The people of the United States would not support any move for peace initiated by this government that would consolidate or make possible a survival of a regime of force and of aggression:”1
