Abstract
After the devastations of the Second World War, Western Europe quickly regained her prominent role as one of the main areas of economic progress in the world economy. Today her nations belong, with minor exceptions, to the first world and the per capita income of her core countries (Great Britain, France, Benelux, Italy, Germany) rank among the highest in international comparisons.
