Abstract

Some time ago John Rawls published an article entitled ‘A Kantian Conception of Equality’.1 I was struck by Rawls’ change in the definition of the least advantaged class, and have been mildly surprised to see no discussion in the literature about the import of that change. I offer this brief note primarily to publicise the change in Rawls’ views and to invite others to consider the significance of the new definition.
