Abstract

After he was forced out of the foreign service in February 1938, Ulrich von Hassell turned to his writing, as he had done during his temporary retirement on health grounds between 1915 and 1919. Writing was one of his enthusiasms, and accommodated his talents. He also found in it some relief from his official duties, for example in the MWT, and from the dangers of his work for the opposition.
