Abstract

If we go back to a traditional state machine and compare this with a microprogrammed system it may seem that both have much in common. In both cases we have a register whose outputs go into a ROM. Some of the outputs of the ROM may be used to control other devices and some will go back into the register. The register might even have inputs from some external sources so long as these are synchronised with the clock which clocks the register.
