Abstract
This chapter covers the bit-slice chip, which is a key building block in many microprogrammed systems. It contains a slice of the data part of many computers, in particular, the registers and the ALU. Although it is possible to obtain 32-bit registered ALU chips, as described later in chapter 8, these can be confusing to the beginner because of the many extra features that they contain; they are also very expensive.
