Contractor’s Responsibilities/Risks

Chapter
Part of the Macmillan Building and Surveying Series book series (BASS)

Abstract

This chapter is headed thus because any additional obligation, duty or responsibility, which a contractor takes on, constitutes an additional ‘risk’ to him. Self evidently, the Design-Build contractor assumes the same responsibility for the construction work as he does in a Traditional Contract, and as the name implies, he also accepts responsibility for that part of the design which he or his consultants undertake. However, there is a lot more to ‘design’ than preparing working drawings and ensuring that they comply with the requirements of the contract.
