Abstract
The problems addressed in this book belong among the most momentous of Bohemian historiography. The character, the nature, the prospects and the meaning of the Bohemian insurrection of 1618 have been scrutinised over and over again. The Battle of the White Mountain—a nightmare of Protestant and patriotic writers—still divides Bohemian history into ‘pre’- and ‘post’-White Mountain periods.1
