Abstract

Equal opportunities policies in organizations are seldom limited race equality. Most have brought their policies on employment of disabled people into the equality framework. A few employers, besides, include sexual orientation, guaranteeing equal treatment of lesbians and gay men. These activities within organizations are expressions of social movements without: the civil rights, black power and anti-racist movements which swept the USA and Western Europe in the 1960s and 1970s; Gay Pride and Lesbian Strength; and more recently a growth in self-organization among groups of people with different forms of disability.
