Abstract

By way of introduction, we should like to make two statements regarding the scope of our report on historical research on women in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). First, this report essentially covers the state of research during the last ten years. Assessments of earlier work merely serve to clarify the background of current historical research on women in the GDR. Second, the bibliographical references given in our footnotes are selective. More detailed information concerning scholarly production during the indicated period can be found in the reports on literature in the Zeitschrift für Geschichtswissenschaft [Journal of the Science of History].1
