Abstract
Academic work on women’s history has been underway in West Germany for more than fifteen years.1 In the meantime, just as in the USA and Great Britain, although with a decided chronological delay, women’s history has become an established field of research. It has generated its own publication series, conferences, university chairs and, accompanied by a comparatively lively public and media response, it has created a new and independent ‘product market’.2
