In this chapter it is shown how failure data can be analysed to find whether or not a component can be considered to have a constant failure rate (CFR). Most electronic components are assumed to have a CFR and thus this is the most important case to consider. Methods of calculating point estimates and confidence intervals for CFR components make up most of the remainder of the chapter. Sections 4.2 to 4.7 inclusive contain general plotting methods. Section 4.8 deals with CFR components only. Section 4.9 indicates briefly how reliability parameters for non-CFR components may be estimated.
