Abstract

This chapter focuses on attempts to democratise mental illness services and on users running their own services. It looks at influences from Maxwell Jones and the ‘therapeutic community’ and some Italian, United States and Dutch developments. It concludes by examining the Canadian service brokerage system and relating it to mental illness.
