Abstract

A unit of drink consists of half a pint of ordinary strength beer, or a glass of wine, or a single measure of spirits; each of which contains about 8 gm of alcohol — for a fuller definition see Introduction, page 2. These figures have been agreed by all bodies active in the field 1, 2, 3 and this is a great improvement on the previous situation, where different authorities quoted different guidelines.
