Abstract
As is so often remarked, menstruation is little discussed within British culture. It features in only a few contexts, a few modes of discourse: one of these is the medical. What, then, can be learnt about the social construction of menstruation from gynaecology texts? Where does the medical mode of knowledge fit into the more general picture of the patriarchal construction of menstruation?
