Abstract

Adair, Dr James McKittrick (1765–1802). Son of an Ayr doctor and a relative of Mrs Dunlop, Adair studied medicine at Edinburgh University and was Burns’s companion on the Highland tour of 4–20 October 1787. On 11 November 1789 Adair married Gavin Hamilton’s half-sister Charlotte Hamilton to whom Burns addressed ‘The Banks of the Devon’. Adair died in Harrogate, Charlotte survived him until 1806.
