Abstract

It has been all too seldom that industrialists have had the opportunity to contribute to the important debate on striking the balance alluded to in my title. The responsibility for this failure of communication does not necessarily rest with the environmentalists. I think my industrial colleagues have been somewhat reluctant to speak out and appear on public platforms.
