Emotional Problems Associated with Childbirth

  • Chapter
Postnatal Care

Part of the book series: Midwifery Practice ((MIPRA))

Abstract

This chapter discusses recent research which shows that, for many women, childbirth is not the joyful experience portrayed by the media, and examines the evidence that unresolved emotional problems at this time may have long-term implications not only for the woman herself, but for her whole family. It also outlines what professionals can do to help, including a rationale for counselling and social support.
