Abstract

Given that the granting of a separate chapter to the work of I. S. Kon was justified at least partly on the grounds of the difficulty of placing him in one academic pigeon-hole, then another explanation is required for including in a single chapter the approaches of two separate disciplines, sociology and demography. There are, in fact, a number of reasons for doing so.
