Abstract
Before we begin to analyse the Soviet writings on sex differences in personality, we should look briefly at the Western theories concerning the development of these differences. This will provide an intellectual context for the Soviet writings. Western psychology and sociology have applied themselves directly to the question of how these differences arise, and hence provide a useful point of comparison with Soviet psychological theory and the pedagogical writings.
