Abstract
From La Tour de Carol we were taken by train to Septfonds, but when we arrived at the station it was a long way from the camp and we were all lined up between ranks of Senegalese soldiers to make our way there on foot. I don’t know whether you can imagine what it was like, that enormous file of refugees, crippled soldiers, wounded men, all sorts, all strung out in a huge column. The French guards were shouting, ‘Allez! Allez! Everyone to the camp.’ There was a song that all the Spaniards began to sing at that time, ‘Y critan los soldados, Allez! Allez!’, because when we first arrived that was the constant call, the gendarmes shouting, ‘Move! Move!’
