Abstract
According to Burton, in his opening remarks to our conference, the phenomenon called deep rooted conflict “involves cases of conflict … that arise out of demands on individuals to make certain adjustments in behavior that are unacceptable, and probably beyond human tolerance and capabilities.” This definition might well be read as a paraphrase to conflicts over needs. It is therefore worthwhile to consider the question of whether needs research can help resolve deep rooted conflicts.
The author extends her thanks to her colleagues Martin Diewald, Hans-Joachim Fietkau, and Bernhard Glaeser for their discussion of and comments on previous drafts of this contribution.
